Had a Senior portrait session with long-time family friend Jessi a couple of weeks ago. It’s easy to remember how old Jessi is because she was a baby at our wedding. For those of you keeping track, that would make her 17, and (duh) a Senior in high school.
The top three images have a hidden subtext for photo dorks like me: garage. The left and center image were made in her grand-mother’s garage (using my portable studio). The right image was shot in front of an old loading dock door for a mechanics garage. Given her propensity for grunge/goth/emo/gamer-chick, I wanted to find something in the neighborhood that didn’t scream “middle class suburbia”. That garage door was the second best thing I found. My favorite background for our wide ranging shoot (3 outfits, 6 locations, 3 hours) was a great, rusty corrugated steel building. We had a great time–she was a real sport, ready to try anything I threw at her, with lots of ideas of her own.
